Terri Rolland
Terri Rolland For over 25 years Terri Rolland has lived in Santa Fe and developed the concise and developed-down forms that have become her signature work. Inspired by the luminosity of the desert, comics, music, and Taoism, Rolland considers her work a coherence of concepts, assembled parts, relative placements, and conglomerate images. Unique within the fine arts world is her work with commercial clay paints, their particular palette and surface effect she uses to bring a 50/50 balance of abstraction and landscape. A painter compelled by the combination of reduction and essence, she is known for her multi-panel series connecting patterns with basic forms all within a mastery of color relationships. After graduating from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, Rolland studied in Rome where she was drawn to the abstraction, light, and colors on urban walls with their multi-layered political content and graffiti—which informed her work in color and surface explorations. Among numerous honors, grants, and residencies, Terri Rolland is the recipient of a Gottlieb Foundation Grant, as well as being a MacDowell Colony Fellow.
