                                                                                Roland Ostheim

Born in Ohio, Roland Ostheim has always been interested in visual art and music since a very young age, as early as he could hold a drawing utensil.  Roland has been working in galleries and other art-based environments for about 14 years now.

Currently residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the past five years, Roland has been immersed in the art and music scene that surrounds him.  While not working his day job at Goldleaf Framemakers as master carver, gilder, and all around woodworker, he occupies his time by creating visual art and making music.

Currently Roland's art is a culmination of different aspects of visual art.  It is his goal to reconstruct overlooked details of the world surrounding him, by utilizing materials such as glass, metal, wood, and paint to recreate natural phenomenon.  By recreating the surface of stone, and using light to create surreal images through glass, he aims to bring the viewer closer to these small details that we take for granted.

The Geomorphology series is inspired by observations of natural landscapes by representing the similarities in the way the earth looks from a plane as well as inspecting the surface details of small stones.  Sometimes a stone can reveal worlds of mountain ranges and canyons.

Each piece in this series offers the viewer a glimpse at a different world.  The goal of these pieces is to entice the viewer into questioning whether they are looking at something up close or from afar, familiar or foreign.
